What is electrostatic spraying and how does it work?

IMD uses the latest electrostatic sprayers utilizing advanced technology to apply disinfecting solutions. They’re based on the principle that opposite electrical charges attract. If you take the “positive” end of a magnet and put it against the “negative” end of another magnet, they attract and stick. If you put the positive ends of two magnets together, however, they repel each other. An electrostatic sprayer is a device that electrically charges disinfectant, giving the solution a positive charge. Electrostatic sprayers use this principle to ensure fast, even coverage of the disinfecting agent. As the solution is combined with air and atomized by an electrode inside the sprayer it exits with a positive charge. The solution is attracted to and evenly covers all (negative and neutral) exposed surfaces uniformly and evenly. Surfaces that are already covered will force the solution to spread out, making it the fastest, most efficient and cost effective way to disinfect. Hard to reach three dimensional areas like desks, floors, walls, doors, and any equipment are covered without over wetting like conventional sprayers. Conventional sprayers only utilize the initial force coming out of the sprayer and gravity to achieve coverage, achieving inferior coverage that is also wasteful and causes pooling of the solution which can cause damage to surfaces and electrical equipment. Electrostatic technology allows IMD Disinfection to provide the fastest, most economical disinfection for our customers.

Features and Benefits of electrostatic spraying versus conventional spraying include

  • Faster more effective coverage of all surfaces and hard-to-reach places compared to conventional methods
  • Perfect coverage for all touch point coverage including handrails, elevator buttons, door knobs and push bars
  • Ionized mist bonds to surfaces with tight clearances such as computer keyboards, registers, appliances, and manufacturing equipment
  • Touch less application which reduces cross contamination of all surfaces
  • Applies chemicals in a more efficient, controlled manner, eliminating the dangers of over wetting/damage to surfaces and equipment
  • Effectively covers more area in less time using less solution which lowers operating costs for us and cost of service to our customers

Comparison chart of the choices for disinfection technology is shown below. As a baseline, hand spraying/aerosol application has an even wetter footprint, longer dwell time, costs more in terms of solution used and labor to apply, suffers from the lowest coverage and consistent application, and is the most damaging to all forms of equipment (personal, office, electrical, and manufacturing).

DISINFECTION TYPES: Electrostatic Fogger
Wet/Low Moisture/Dry Application Low Moisture Wet
Dwell Time 1-3 minutes 30-40 minutes
Cost – solution and labor $ $$
Safest most consistent application X
CDC recommended X
EPA-registered label compliant X
Complete 360 degree coverage X
Utilizes positively charged particles to effect total 360 degree coverage X
99.9% Lethality of pathogens X
Safe for personal, office, and manufacturing equipment X X
Reduces the risk of cross contamination X X

Using electrostatic technology IMD enables farmers to utilize natural soil, synthetic medium, or hydroponic systems and maximize yields while eliminating mold/mildew/rot on their crops. It enables farmers to apply specific grow cycle (growth/flower/flush) nutrients to all above-ground growth (including undersides of leaves). There is no better way to feed and protect your investment.

Simply stated, the advantages of electrostatic spraying versus all other application methods put it into a class by itself which is why IMD Disinfection chooses to utilize this method.

Bacteria and Viruses the most dangerous health threats that we face.

Bacteria and Viruses; are the most dangerous health threats that we face. Let’s review them.

Bacteria and Viruses are micro-organisms that can’t be seen by the human eye and their lethal illnesses display many of the same symptoms. The main difference between the two on a biological level is that bacteria cells can live inside or outside a body, while viruses require a host to survive. Many bacteria are helpful: in our stomach; digestive bacteria allows us to absorb food, in soil by adjusting nitrogen and decomposing organic material. Similarly, not all viruses are bad—we now know there are also beneficial viruses present in our bodies that can kill undesirable bacteria and other, more dangerous viruses.

Bacteria and Viruses are all around us

Bacteria and viruses may not be visible to the naked eye, but they are all around us in truly incredible numbers. In our oceans, there are roughly 10 billion times more bacteria than there are stars in the known universe. The millions of viruses that exist on our planet laid end to end would stretch for a distance of 100 million light-years. Most micro-organisms live harmlessly in/on our bodies outnumbering human cells by 10 to 1 and playing a vital role in human health. Pathogens are a subset of micro-organisms that cause disease and include strains of bacteria, fungi, viruses, helminths, and protozoa. Only 1% of the world’s known microbial population is pathogenic to humans— approximately 1400 species.
At IMD our solutions effectively kill ALL known pathogens safely and quickly.

Bacteria and Viruses

What are Viruses, what are Bacteria?

Viruses are biological entities consisting of genetic material (single or double-stranded DNA/RNA) within a protective cellular wall. Like bacteria, they are microscopic and assume different shapes and sizes such as spirals, cylinders, and cylindrical shapes. Because viruses don’t have the same components as bacteria, they cannot be killed by antibiotics; only antiviral medications or vaccines can eliminate or reduce the severity of a viral disease. Viruses cause a wide range of diseases including the common cold, flu, herpes simplex virus, AIDS, Ebola, Zika, MERS, measles, smallpox, and SARS (including the current pandemic of COVID19). Bacteria are free-living cells (microscopic prokaryotes – the oldest, smallest, and simplest cells), that can live inside or outside a body and can be a rod, spiral or spherical in shape. There are two types of bacteria: Gram-negative or positive. Gram-negative bacteria have an outer membrane that acts as an extra line of defense making it harder for antibiotics to penetrate. The solution IMD uses destroys cellular walls of all Viruses and Bacteria through oxidation, causing the pathogen to collapse before being consumed.

Infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viruses are responsible for killing well over half of mankind. Bacterial infections started several major pandemics such as the bubonic plague (Black Death) which killed 50-60 million Western Europeans during the 14th Century). Viruses are biological entities consisting of genetic material (single or double-stranded DNA/RNA) within a protective cellular wall. Like bacteria, they are microscopic and assume different shapes and sizes such as spirals, cylinders, and spherical shapes. How to Combat Bacteria and Viruses

Active and Passive resistance in the following forms;
Vaccinations – being vaccinated and staying current with boosters
Social distancing – 6 feet is the bare minimum
Situational awareness – being mindful of those around you for symptoms and avoiding high-risk areas
Quarantining – follow the current CDC guidelines for anyone testing positive
Disinfecting – have your living and working spaces disinfected regularly

Omicron Variant

Omicron Variant

The Omicron variant is spreading more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus as well as the Delta variant. The CDC has stated that anyone with the Omicron infection can spread it to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t show symptoms.

The rapid growth rate in Omicron infections results from an increased transmissibility and the ability to disregard immunity conferred by past infection and/or vaccination (immune evasion). Current data unfortunately suggests a greater role for immune evasion than increased transmissibility. That means it is getting better at defeating a persons’ immune system even if less people are getting infected. Current opinion is that any immunity conferred by prior infection or vaccination is likely to be reduced compared with Delta.

The clinical severity outlook of the Omicron variation will strongly influence its impact on future U.S. hospitalizations and deaths. At present, early data suggest Omicron infection might be less severe than infection with prior variants but reliable data on clinical severity is very limited. Even if the portion of infections with severe outcomes is slightly lower than previous variants, this will be offset by the number of infections. The numbers of people with severe outcomes will remain significant.

The factors of increased transmissibility and immune evasion are in addition to ongoing Delta variant infections and an increasing number of illnesses caused by other respiratory pathogens (such as influenza, which have begun to circulate at greater frequencies).

Where is COVID going?

The United States has already endured the initial waves of COVID-19 with a total of 839,476 lives lost since 2020. At the apex of the U.S. epidemic in January 2021, at least 3,300 people died (on average) daily. Almost 60 million cases have been reported in the United States, according to a compilation of state and county data. Worldwide the number of deaths has surpassed 5.5 million with no signs of slowing down.

Although widespread availability of vaccines in the United States helped to reduce cases in the spring and early summer 2020, the Delta variant led to a renewed spike in cases and hospitalizations nationwide later in the year. In December of 2021, daily COVID-19 cases in the U.S. climbed to record highs due to the faster spreading Omicron variant. This cycle mirrors what happened during the influenza pandemic of 1918 which claimed between 20 – 100 million lives at the height of its lethality and has never been eradicated, mutating every year. Think about that.

Unfortunately there never has been and probably never will be a “miracle” vaccine for this virus or any other. This is because;

Fact: There has never been a vaccine created that was universally effective on patients, socially accepted, or developed/distributed fast enough.

Fact: Viruses will always mutate faster than the human race can eradicate them.

These two simple facts outline a call to action for humanity; to actively address the threat. Actively addressing this pandemic and related health threats is the only logical course of action because repeating the same things over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

If you want to actively improve the environmental health of where you live and work contact us for help because life threatening issues don’t need management, they need resolution. Our services eliminate the corona virus and ALL known pathogens dangerous to human beings quickly, safely and economically.
